Day in the Park

Last Thursday, October 25^th, we put on our annual Day in the Park. The event is a field trip for 4 year olds in the Lake County Voluntary Pre-K program. All of the VPK centers in the area are invited to bring their kids out for a fun field trip to Hickory Pointe Park in Tavares. Different stations are set up for the children to do fun activities that help them learn to express themselves through art.  This year’s event was an awesome success, with a turnout of over 750 children in attendance.


The staff arrived bright and early at 7 am to set up, and it was pouring rain. Lucky for us, the rain was finished by 8:30, and the weather turned out to be perfect. Buses began trickling in at 9:00, and by 10:00, everything was in full swing. Music was playing, kids were painting and drawing. A few of the staff members happened to be caught scarf dancing.

At the 18 different tents, volunteers did face painting and balloon animals, while others supervised drawing, painting, cutting, stamping, and gluing.

At the Learning Station, Mr. Don Monopoly  performed some sing-along songs for the kids, parents, and teachers to dance to.

In between the fun and games, the preschoolers got yummy treats from the popcorn, snow cone, and cotton candy machines run by our chairman, Will Pruitt, and his wife Kimberli!
